Friend to the Homeless and native of Chicago, artist Jon Linton, the Founder of The I Have A Name Project has created this incredible video honoring and remembering the lives lost in Phoenix, AZ due to homelessness.

“I think human beings are just naturally compassionate,” says artist Jon Linton. “We all have that desire to help when someone’s in trouble, and that’s what really drove me to create this project.”

Below is the young man whose death started a campaign for a youth shelter in Elkhart county and now exists!

“Devin Borkowski died March 6 2015 and was found in a vacant home having frozed to death. he was only 16 yrs of age.He had been on the streets for 31 days, and was a runaway teen. One blanket or sleeping bag could have saved his life. Rest in Peace Devin, you were too young to die and will be missed!” (more)

“Anastasia and Red are just some of those of homeless individuals who have perished simply because they had nowhere to take shelter when temperatures dropped. More than 153,000 Americans have no shelter on any given night. With extreme cold hitting the Northeast and Midwest this week and winter even coming to the South, even more homeless people will be at risk. An estimated 2,000 homeless people died on the streets last year, according to those who memorialized them.” (more) Jan/28/2015

Toronto, Canada:

“”Very sadly, we confirm that a 61-year-old male client of the Streets to Homes Assessment and Referral Centre passed away in his sleep the morning of Jan. 8, 2015,” said Patricia Anderson of the city’s Shelter, Support &Housing Administration Division.” (more)

Milwakee, WI :

“The deaths of two men in Milwaukee were linked Monday to exposure to the cold, as a dangerously frigid weather system settled into southern Wisconsin ahead of several inches of snow and wind chill values as low as 30 degrees below zero.

A 91-year-old man was found dead shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday in his unheated 30-degree home in the 4700 block of N. 20th St., according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office.

And a 58-year-old man with a history of homelessness was found dead in an alcove near a liquor store in the 600 block of S. 1st St. shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the office.” (more) Jan/05/2015
